Research
*In the above quote the energy body is described as invisible however, energy is visible for many, including me.
Thoughts About Research
Unlike much of the Eastern world where meditation practice is ubiquitous therefore the nuances of such practice are intrinsically understood, the West, albeit eagerly engaging, continues to strive for understanding, meaning, and purpose. The desire to pigeon hole mindful spiritual practice has given the western scientific thinking minds rich fodder for discussion and debate.
Even though my studies in metaphysics started in my early thirties, I struggled to integrate my practice into my family life. My meditation and healing practice was something I did “on the side.” It was the early 80’s and metaphysics or “New Age practice” was something people either dove into head first, where somewhat curious about from the outside, or considered it serious woo-woo.
Of course today there are many spiritually based books, teachers, speakers, healers, bloggers, and practitioners. Bioscience is a real thing. We’ve come a long way here in the West! However, evidence and proof of its value for human-kind continue to be sought after.
Teaching the STIRLING METHOD & Participant Feedback
In Sept 2025 I began teaching the STIRLING METHOD at the West Vancouver Community Centre.
*At the West Vancouver Community Centre the STIRLING METHOD program is listed as Fitness for the Energy Body.
Feedback from participants in my Fitness for the Energy Body classes supports my working hypothesis that exercising the Physical Body rather than sitting in meditation offers a level of emotional and mental ease to learning and experiencing the Energy Body system.
Feedback from my participants:
Many people can relate to feelings of uneasiness, agitation, frustration and anger practicing a slow moving or sitting meditation practice. I was, and still can be at times, one of those people.
There is a plethora of researched material addressing the issue of trauma-sensitive mindful-meditation practice. Trauma can feel like an overused word to give “excuses” for big feelings or challenging behaviour. However the current research shows the undeniable correlation between childhood adversities and poor childhood and adult mental, physical, and emotional health that often includes substance misuse. Understanding the Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder that Veterans and civilians of war suffer is clearly understood.
It is now known that trauma experienced at any age not only “interrupts the plot”, trauma sticks! It damages our body, brain, and being. Because we are designed to survive we adapt as best we can to the world around us, full of human beings also damaged and programed by their own traumas.
Personally Speaking:
Only when I began Energetically healing my system did I truly see how deeply trauma had affected my very Being, Soul, self as Spirit, my psyche. My struggling mental and emotional health manifested in the form of physical ailments, and dysfunctional relationships.
Understanding the STIRLING METHOD for Body Brain Being
With the STIRLING METHOD, the sequence for learning is reversed.
For Example: In the class where participants learn the skill of Grounding – Bosu Balls are used. As one is stepping or jumping up onto a Bosu Ball the body’s core muscles kick into action to help balance. While balancing, participants use imagination to create their succinct Grounding cord (like a tree trunk column of energy from the body to the center of the planet.)
During the exercise the body works, building strength and creating muscle memory, making the intent to fully Ground experiential both for the physical body and the Energy Body. Balancing on a Bosa Ball is much easier when enhancing ones Grounding cord and connecting to the centre of the planet. This is just one example of how physical exercise contributes to “waking up to, tuning in to, and engaging with the Energy Body system. During the exercise the Physical Body and the Energy Body embody each other.
*Participants have an option to do low impact moves and levels of intensities. Such as stepping up onto the Bosu Ball rather than jumping onto it, and holding onto a bar for support.
It’s also important to remind readers that the STIRLING METHOD is fitness for the Body, Brain, and Being. The heart rate must come up cuing the body to release “feel-good endorphins.” These endorphins contribute to feeling calm, sleeping well, improved digestion and more.
I began running and exercising in the mid-70s, and experienced those feel good endorphins referred to as the “runners high,” calm, balanced, and in control of myself.
The comment below by Roberts speaks to another finding of how physical movement effects the very structure of the brain by creating new pathways.
There is something magical about the movement unconsciously “shaking loose” (if you will) the memory, which then releases from the body, allowing for a new pathway to form. Now add the skills of creating a solid flowing Grounding cord, Centering in the head, (a place of neutrality), establishing and owning the Aura space around you, while endorphins release into the nervous system: Dopamine (pleasure & motivation,) Serotonin (regulates mood, improves sleep, digestion, over all well-being).
The STIRLING METHOD offers: Improved good health for the Body Brain and Being.
- Body strengthens
- Brain forms new healthy pathways, Feel good endorphins enhance well-being.
- Energy Body System is realized and utilized – traumas and unwanted programming released, balance and belonging restored
Personally Speaking:
A combination of my own childhood experiences, my nursing career, volunteer work with marginalized folks, working with those recovering from addiction, and striving to be a good parent, lead me to learn about the fragility and toughness of both spirit and body.
A damaged spirit will inevitably manifest in the body, leading to a smorgasbord of challenges and opportunities. Only the individual suffering Being can take the “bull by the horns,” take that deep dive (that’s not so scary after all) and find the love from which we ALL are made. Knowing this, it is easy to see how human-kind loses its way when fear takes hold, enlarging the ego and shrinking the love.
The STIRLING METHOD is a natural extension of me. All of me, Body, Brain, Being, Love and Ego. When love and ego are equal partners, one can “move mountains.” When a suffering Being heals and returns to a “peace that passes all understanding” its as if mountains move.
I am delighted to write that the mountains I lived with, causing shadows in my heart-mind have moved.
I experience unshakable courage as I extend my Self to the world; I have no choice now that I am “riding the horse in the direction it’s going.” Giving up control over that horse, for me, is miraculous. Fear had me gripping the rains, not easy to do when sitting backwards on a horse!
STIRLING METHOD approach research questions:
- As the body works/exercises and the heart rate goes up and muscles engage, is it possible that we open to the Energy Body with an increased sense of ease?
- Is it possible that because we are in the present moment when exercising, the Energy Body opens and flows naturally, with no effort or conscious input from the mind?
The example below may seem like a strange metaphor to explain how the STIRLING METHOD works, but it is accurate in its simplicity.
Like Pavlov’s dog.
- The dog jumps – (exercise) = gets a treat – (reward.)
- The participant jumps on the Bosu Ball – (exercise) = Grounding enhances, flows, connects, feelings of safety and connectedness increase – (reward.)
- The dog rolls over – (exercise) = gets a treat – (reward.)
- The participant reaches their arms up and to the sides – (exercise) = Aura boundaries are realized, creating a sense of worthiness and belonging, evoking creative space – (reward.)
- The dog spins in circles – (exercise) = gets a treat – (reward.)
- The participant does a Bridge Pose – (exercise) = 1st chakra flows, increases emotional stability, establishes a sense of courage, releases old programming – (reward.)
Being a person with undiagnosed ADHD, this reversed method of learning meditative skills works extremely well for me.
Sitting with eyes closed, turning inward, took me years to master. In the beginning, I have to say, it was physically and emotionally painful. Although I am now able to meditate the traditional way, eyes closed turning inward, exercising remains my preferred method of coming into the present moment, aligning and healing my Energy Body, with the added benefit of releasing healing endorphins.
The STIRLING METHOD is a “3 in 1 deal!”
Moving Forward
In January 2026 I am bringing the STIRLING METHOD to the HOpe Centre in North Vancouver. See the link below for information about the HOpe Centre. As with West Vancouver Community Centre, the HOpe Centre will list my program using a name that supports a community based organization.
I am extremely excited about teaching my program at the HOpe Centre facility. My intention is to allow for open communication between the participants and me so that I may learn (in the form of research,) the ease or difficulty in which participants are able to learn and experience their Energy Body system.
At both the West Vancouver Centre and The HOpe Centre I teach exactly what is described in the STIRLING METHOD website. Please contact me with any questions, or just to say hello.
Thank you for reading this post, I am honoured.
