Evidence and Personal Experience
In the 60’s, 70’s and early 80’s when the running craze took hold, and the word meditate infiltrated mainstream western culture, I was ripe and ready to dive in head first. I remain indebted to these practices for my states of physical, mental and emotional well Being.
Until recently, other than Yoga, Tai Chi, and Pilates, meditation and movement for the most part have been considered separate activities. The uniqueness of the STIRLING METHOD fitness program is it’s specificity; discovering and healing the Energy Body while moving and strengthening the Physical Body. This method of fitness takes mindfulness to the next level, and is accessible for everyone.
Physical Activity Mindfulness and Physical Activity

The scholarly article above is one of hundreds that speak to the profound contribution a mindful fitness practice has on ones over all wellbeing. Now, add the dimension of mindfully experiencing and healing your Energy Body, and, mindfully strengthening your Physical Body at the same time.
What Comes First, Mindfulness or Movement?
The quick answer is, there is no right answer. That is to say, the pressure is off to get something right. Even a physical movement such as a reverse lunge will feel awkward the first time you do one. Only with putting your body in that position many times will you feel the accuracy of the movement and position. The earth energy flowing up into your feet and through your leg channels will be your Energy Body focus during a reverse lunge. You may imagine or experience this energy flow before going into the lunge, or while holding the lunge, or completing the lunge. And each time may be a different experience.
The physical effort of holding a lunge enhances the energy healing and flow through your legs, strengthens your leg muscles which supports good balance and posture, and deepens your breathing which releases endorphins from the brain calming your nervous system and reducing physical pain. It’s a collaboration of all your systems holistically working together for optimal wellbeing. This is the STIRLING METHOD.
What is the Difference Between Thinking/Thoughts and Mindfulness/Consciousness
Scientifically speaking about Thoughts:

Thoughts, or the thinking mind at work, can be measured and accurately evaluated.

Consciousness or mindfulness, cannot (yet) be measured or accurately evaluated.
Experientially speaking:
The phrase, “the casual closure of the physical world” intrigues me. Possibly, the author is referencing the distraction of the physical world, such as those things that cause us to worry or feel anxious. When I am conscious, I am the observer. My thinking mind is turned off. I am simply observing my body’s sensations as I operate in the physical world. With my thinking mind turned off, I observe with awareness, curiosity and wonder.
In relation to the STIRLING METHOD, when bringing your awareness to the act of moving your body in a directed way, i.e. reverse lunge, your thinking mind turns off, thus awakening your observant mind as you manipulate your body to perform the lunge. You are completely in the present moment as an observer. At the same time, observing the energy flow through your leg channels requires mindful attention in the present moment, whereby the physical world around you plays no role in the task at hand, hence “. . . the casual closer of the physical world” occurs.
